PNW

Since Fall of 2006, VTS has been building a strong network of schools and museums to deeply impact the lives of educators and students. The following are highlights of our programs throughout the region:

  • Through a formal partnership with the Frye Art Museum, hundreds of teachers, gallery guides, parent docents and educators have been and continue to be trained in VTS. Together we are providing long term professional development to teachers at Roxhill Elementary School and the Arts and Academics Academy.
  • Other schools implementing VTS in the Seattle area include the Highland Terrace Elementary School (Shoreline), the Island School (Bainbridge Island), St Benedict School (Seattle), and University Child Development School (Seattle).
  • In the Fall of 2008, the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane, WA began a VTS school program, piloting the 3 year professional development program with the entire staff at Garfield Elementary School.
  • Through creative programming, VTS now reaches a wide range of range of audiences including Medical students at the University of Washington, Family Practice Residents at Swedish Hospital, Graduate Art students and students in the English Language Program at the University of Washington.
  • We continue help develop VTS trainers in this region and nationally by providing Professional Development Institutes in Seattle each year. Both the Seattle Art Museum and the Frye Art Museum generously host these sessions each year.
  • We continue our goal of reaching students through whole school professional development partnerships. In support of this mission, the Seattle Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs has committed to provide funding for one school in collaboration with the Seattle Public Schools starting Fall 2009.
